Matt’s Spelling Tests

My son Matthew has never had problems getting A’s in school. I have a feeling though that this year will be different because, though he is technically in grade 3, he is in a classroom with grade 3 and grade 4. I have hunch that things are a tiny bit tougher because they are being taught to be more independent. I don’t think that the teacher hounds them with reminders to do things like a teacher might for a class with only grade 3 kids.

For example, last year Matt’s spelling tests were almost always perfect. This year he’s making mistakes. Why? Not because the words are too challenging for him (he’s not expected to spell skinceuticals or anything). It’s because he’s forgetting to bring home his planner and that means we can’t give him his spelling practice quiz like we always did the morning of his test. If he was reminded to bring home his planner he’d be all set though.

Not that I’m meaning to pass the buck. I’m just not sure that he’s ready to be fully responsible to remember everything all on his own just yet. After all, he IS only 8 years old ;)
