Mad Libs
We tried these last night and WOW did we have a hoot!!
Matt - who’s in grade 2, is learning about the parts of a sentence so this is perfectly timed. If you’ve not tried them, they come in a sort of note pad thingy and they are fill in the blanks.
So its a short story (half or a full page) per page and there are lots of blank lines. Under each blank line there is the name of a sentence piece like “noun” or “verb”. So the “reader”, that’s me, skims the story for the blank lines and asks the kids to name a noun/verb/adverb/adjective etc.. Bear in mind, while they are picking the words, they have no idea what the story is about.
Once they’ve picked a bunch of words - the blanks are all filled in - you read the story. Since they had no idea what the story was about when they picked the words, it reads very silly and the kids just giggled and giggled. It was soooooo much fun!
P.S. Mad Libs junior i hear is not as much fun as the regular Mad Libs - just thought i’d add that.
