Picky Eaters???
Well I have to admit, our 5 year old daughter Jennifer is… well, maybe not a “picky eater” per say, but she isn’t very adventurous either.
I’ve been very patient, following what each parenting book says and letting her decide whether to try new foods or not. I put it on her plate and she will usually squeal “aaaaaaaaaaaaa I don’t like that Mommy” and slowly shove it off her plate and on to the table more often than not. I let it go in the interest of not giving her food issues later in life (as the books say that will happen if we force her to eat something).
This has been driving me nuts though. Our 7 year old son Matthew will try pretty much anything and has been like that at least since he was 3. Making dinner is tough when you have to include at least 2 things the non-adventurous child will eat. And, it’s not like I’m trying to get her to try Thai food or anything similar. I just want her to try corn and peas and pork and chicken… the basics as far as I’m concerned.
Anyway, my hubby has been after me to let him try to get Jenn to try more foods and I have to say that I’m at my wits end. She’s 5 and a half now and really needs to move from chicken nuggets to roasted chicken - and only “c” shaped noodles to different shapes of pasta with different sauces. I want her to be healthy and I know that Kraft macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets for the next 5 years of her life just isn’t healthy food… I think it’s time to see what Daddy can accomplish… What do you think??
