Heartbreak in the van
My poor Jenni (who is 5yrs) used to be great about play-dates etc. Loved to go to her friends’ houses etc. Of course, this was last year in Junior Kindergarten.
Now here we are in Senior Kindergarten and she is no fan of play-dates. What happened? you ask. Well, thanks for asking, and, I have no idea. She is still very happy to have a sitter come over to hang out with her and her brother while Hubby and I go out. She walks into her classroom with barely a glance behind her to say “bye Mom”. But take her to another house and leave - no thanks man! She will NOT be happy.
Tragic as it is (and I promise you, it feels tragic when she is running around in the van red eyed, avoiding every door so i can’t get her out), perhaps it’s somewhat age-appropriate. She is coming into her own, still realizing what a powerful, and capable person she is. Though she says she just misses me when i’m not around, I can’t help but realize that there will come a day when she just won’t miss me because her friends are cooler
So, i guess i’ll just hang in there in the mean time and try to suck all the joy out of yet another tough phase
Hey at least she likes me - by 14yrs, I may not be so lucky
